Nibs, aka Nibbles, the Nibbler, Nibbus
No, just wanting his home to be his forever home.
Hello Portland Folks and surrounding areas.
My name is Heather and I am writing this request with a hope and a wish for my sweet sweet gentle man, Nibbles.
He is a cream Shiba Inu mixed with an American Eskimo who came to me off of a Petfinder ad about 10 years ago. At the time I was married and had a lot of support and another Shiba Inu, Mr. Pants, who became Nibbles’ best friend.
When I read Nibs’ ad on Petfinder I thought I was just going to be adopting a healthy 7 month old puppy to accompany my already 7 month old puppy. Upon arrival, I could see Nibs had been severely abused and was in very poor health. This poor puppy wouldn't get out of the crate he came in. It took days to get him to come out. Once I began to gain his trust, I could see that he was covered in over 40 ticks, realized his neuter was infected, and he also had two ear infections, and two eye infections to round him out. He was emaciated, and exhausted. This poor little guy had just been through the ringer. I called up his previous owner and she revealed to me that her husband had kicked this poor dog repeatedly. He had been left outside his entire puppyhood and the man used a squeaky toy to lure him in and then would kick him.
He was scared of everything around him. He couldn't handle seeing men, he'd just start screaming and crying, he was in full PTSD. My poor husband at the time had to not talk upon entering the home as Nibs would pee or poop himself out of a fear based reaction because of what his previous owner had done to him.
Mr. Pants helped Nibs feel safe. He gave him a sense of ground, and a place he felt like he belonged in. It took a few years, but we really got him to improve and softened his reactions to everything with a lot of great efforts
Fast forward to now….Just a couple of months ago Mr. Pants got spleen cancer and had to cross over the rainbow bridge. This left Nibs devastated. Pants was his rock, his best friend. He was depressed for weeks, and couldn't really figure out what he was without his alpha around. I became the alpha. He follows me everywhere because tha's what he's always done, it makes him feel safe. I left on vacation to go lay Mr. Pants ashes to rest, and he got to stay with my good friend and her household of dogs. Immediately, he became attached to one of the dogs in the home. He was happy to have friends again. I brought him home from his stay and he is depressed again. He wants so badly to be around other dogs.
I am telling this backstory because I really need whomever this ad is intended for to know his background, and feel comfortable with what he comes with. He is such a GOOD gentle soul. He still has his little quirks here and there, but really shines when he is around his kind. He just requires softness and patience. He is still terrified squeaky toys.
I unfortunately cannot get another dog at this time, and have every hope and wish for him to find his forever home with a companion.
